White-out today

Thistles in the snow

Thistles in the snow

An image from today’s snow filled day. People are talking about a white Christmas in Blighty, the bookmakers have wussed out slashing odds from 8-1 to 11-4, we shall see, it hasn’t happened for a long time.

Post Christmas update

Q: Did it snow on Christmas Day?

A: Nope.

Kettering Science Academy Secondary School Prospectus 2010

PDF version of the current Kettering Science Academy prospectus, design and print – Heppdesigns. Below is a large version of my favourite photo from the session. We did a lot of shots before we got this one, which was used on page 12 of the final prospectus, so it was worth the effort. What doesn’t come across in the photo is the whole class, just off camera, shouting encouragement to get the perfect flip. Well done to the young lady in the picture who must be an expert with a frying pan by now. I also like the almost zen-like calm of the young man in the foreground, who was lost in his cake icing despite the mayhem that was going on around him.

It always nice to get a card near Christmas

It always nice to get a card near Christmas

It always nice to get a card near Christmas, this one I liked especially, a hand written thank you card from the bride’s parents.

Helen and I have just received our copy of the wedding/party album from Phil & Kyria. I have to write and thank you for all your hard work and the quality of the completed article.

I usually hate wedding albums and the process that the photographer uses to reach their contrived conclusion.

I have to say you have changed my attitude. It can be done as it should be done.

Thank you for a delightful result and I hope you have many more commissions, you deserve them.

With regards,

Bill and Helen Foster

You can preview theirĀ wedding album here. It’s a two-parter with the ceremony coverage from The George of Stamford and the celebration in Stonton Wyville.

Equipment used

A high key light (Sun), reflector (table) and dark backdrop (fence). You don’t need fancy equipment and studios, just a keen eye on the weather and an understanding of the available light. Taken in the early afternoon, the sun is quite high and back left. The table here is acting as a reflector and bouncing the sun back up into her face and filling in the shadows. Behind is a fence which has been dropped into deep shadow by the position of the sun.

About the image

I like the way the cat and the girl merge together. They are best friends in real life and often this close, so I might have yelled “hold it there”, but apart from that there was no instructions given or posing required.
